Theatre of the Ancients was commissioned to create two short, visual performances to open and close the international film festival, the Ibiza Cine Fest in January 2019, at Can Ventosa, Eivissa city. ‘The Visions of Francisco Palau Parts I & II’ were a poetical interpretation of the events said to have taken place in the 1800’s on Es Vedrá, the remote, rocky island off the South coast of Ibiza where the Carmelite monk Francisco Palau spent several months meditating in a cave. His mystical encounters with animal and spirit, with earth-bound and ethereal, are played out through mask theatre and giant puppet performance, with atmospheric score provided by the Ibiza-Goa electronica artist Shilenat.
