Goddess Tanit

The Goddess Tanit is the eternal, timeless symbol for Ibiza, ancient and new. A Carthaginian moon goddess worshipped on the island over 2500 years ago, she is known as a goddess of fertility and healing, as well as destruction and hedonism – proving that she is just as relevant to Ibiza today as she might have been two millenia ago…

For many people, the Goddess Tanit epitomises the strange magic and healing spirit that they feel on this island – and perhaps those are the very feelings which led the Phoenicians to start worshipping Tanit here on Ibiza, in the 5th Century B.C.

This puppet has been hand-crafted from sculpted cardboard and papier maché, and embellished with hessian, natural twine and felt. When standing in her full power, Tanit measures two metres in height.
