A Illa das Matriarcas

A participatory performance art piece developed in collaboration with Diana Mera of Apória Escenica and co-produced by the MITCFC Festival, Galicia, 2019.

The Illa das Matriarcas (‘the isle of the matriarchs’) is a bridge between the the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, and between two artists, Diana Mera (based in Galicia) and Joanna Hruby (based in the Balearic Islands). Lived processes which bring us into relation with tradition and history, as well as our everyday stories. This piece evokes a rhythmical flight of Departure and Return, and contemplates the mythology of the bird, and the saltwater expanses that it traverses on its migrations.

Performed at the 36º Mostra Internacional de Teatro Cómico y Festivo de Cangas (MITCFC), in Cangas, Galicia, 2019,
