‘Corsaris’ (‘Corsairs’ in English) was a short animated film commissioned by the Consell d’Eivissa (the Ibizan government) and the Museu Can Ros, the island’s ethnographical museum, in 2019. It was directed and produced by Enrique Villalonga Juan of Filmótica. ‘Corsaris’ tells the well-loved, true story of a heroic Eivissan corsair, Antoni Riquer i Arabí, who managed to defend Ibiza against an invading pirate ship in 1806 in the most dramatic and surprising way, and with simpler means and a much smaller boat than his attacker – a dreaded pirate known as ‘Il Papa‘. The film features handmade rod puppets, handpainted backdrops/scenery, and hand-sculpted props, and was projected within the exhibition  ‘Naus a l’horitzó… Corsaris a la mar!’ (‘Ships on the horizon… Corsairs at sea!’) at the Museu Can Ros, throughout 2020.
