Xicu and Jordi are two giant puppets representing traditional ‘saliners’, or salt workers, of Eivissa. They were commissioned in 2025 by the Ajuntament de Sant Josep de Sa Talaia (the San Jose government), for the Fira de la Sal, Ibiza’s annual salt festival. The two puppets measure about 3.5 metres in height and were made from sculpted cardboard and papier maché. On their heads they carry traditional, handwoven “senallas” (baskets), which were created by artisan basket weavers Paumes i Brins, in Mallorca.
